Lavish Visions, Inspired Design by Tony Duquette

Written by faith | 2

This expert Seattle interior designer took a break from blogging over the holidays. But that doesn’t mean I’m not absorbing all types of design related news. One article I enjoyed is from the LA Times about Tony Duquette. The image of a room he designed from the bird’s eye view for actor Tom Coburn caught my attention. What color and composition!

Duquette had a large and loyal film industry clientele. Among them: Hollywood tough guy James Coburn. In the actor’s foyer, vividly painted turquoise with a coral-colored staircase railing, Duquette created a massive chandelier centered on a mirrored disco ball. The chairs and settee are intricately carved Indian designs. Drums serve as side tables and, in the corner, as a pedestal for a ceramic pagoda, one of Duquette’s favorite decorative items.

This master bathroom designed by Tony Duquette Studios has walls covered with blowups of pen-and-ink drawings made by Duquette in Venice, Italy, in 1947.
This book is one of my favorites for inspiring design ideas. More is More , Tony Duquette by Hutton Wilkinson.

Domestic Violence Survivors Surprised with Holiday Makeover

Written by faith | 0

Last week this expert Seattle interior designer shared some first look photos from the makeover I did for a mother and daughter last Thursday. KOMO News in Seattle covered this surprise and I have additional images of before and after and a video too. Please enjoy them in this time of holiday giving.

KOMO video of makeover

“For the first time, a Seattle mother and daughter say they have a home. They are domestic violence survivors who recently moved into an apartment, but had no way to decorate it, and barely had any furniture. KOMO4′s Michelle Esteban was in on a surprise Home Makeover.”

Faith Sheridan Teams with Salvation Army and Angel Helper

Written by faith | 0

Over the past two months this expert Seattle interior designer collaborated with a fellow designer, Bonnie Bagley on a rewarding opportunity to use our design talents. Approached by Salvation Army NW and Angel Helper via the Seattle Design Center, Bonnie and I reached out to our vendors and created two warm, comfortable bedrooms for a mother and daugher. You can read the story here.

Karen and her daughter are domestic abuse survivors so the cozy cocoons can nurture them safely. With lots of support from the design community, they now have carpet underfoot in their bedrooms, new bed linens, and more. Fresh colorful towels and a shower curtain add to their bath.

Teen Decorating - Meet PB Home

Written by faith | 2

As this expert Seattle interior designer watches the merchandise online and in-store at Pottery Barn for teens, it is clear they see the need and respond. Quickly! Teens eagerly seek and create trends to express themselves. That’s not difficult with clothing or hair or shoes. But teen furnishings lagged for a long time. No more. Enter PB Teen.

Yes, teens follow the pack from technology to clothing and everything in between, and if their friends have it, they want it. Sarah Lynam, spokeswoman for PB-teen, says, “consider a gift that will encourage a bit of individuality by turning up the style quotient in their bedroom. But before choosing decor gifts, Mom and Dad need to consider their hobbies, interests and favorite colors.”

Her gift ideas are the colorful Rockin’ Alarm Clock, which comes with a dock to play and recharge iPods. Decorative wall items, whether removable decals or wire wall letters and zodiac signs, also are big-sellers, she said. Images courtesy of PB Teen.

Simply Elegant Christmas Tree Options

Written by faith | 0

A recent post in Houzz shared holiday decorations from the Atlanta Holiday House, a very grand estate. This expert Seattle interior designer enjoys restraint in all aspects of design and found a few examples for my readers.

This barebones alternative captures the essence of restraint that I personally appreciate.

More variations on the alternative, simple Christmas tree included tablescapes, dress forms and more. The dress form was in a laundry room at the Atlanta Holiday House and the charming tablescape in a girl’s room.

Another clever and easily duplicated table decoration is the one shown from the wine room. The bottle on a foyer table or dining room server is elegant. Another location might be the powder room.

The second image is a closer look in case you want to try it for yourself.
