A Comeback for Olive Green

Written by faith | 1

As an expert Seattle interior designer I attend many events at the Seattle Design Center. Last week Leatrice Eiseman, leading color expert, spoke about color trends. She is the person who designated turquoise as the color of 2010. Some other tidbits about other colors came from Q & A. The power of green from the lime shades to old venerables, like olive green, continues after banishment in the 1970′s. So I share this image below to welcome olive green to your color vocabulary.

Designers Fisher and Weisman of San Francisco upholstered tufted sofas in olive green linen velvet. The key to the success of the olive green is mixing it with golds, yellows, soft oranges and browns. What a beautiful setting.

Loft Living-My Project on Ava Living This Week

Written by faith | 0

This expert Seattle interior designer is honored to be featured on Ava Living this week and share the spotlight with other talented designers and their lofty work.

Renovation of this 1,200 square foot loft in Portland’s trendy Pearl District creates an open, informal space for leisure, work and play for a young bachelor. The modern, neo-classic design is both interdependent and intimate, providing a private retreat in the city.

A neutral paint palatte of pale almond and caramel is strongly accentuated by the conversational area which is anchored by a red, Tibetan rug and surrounded by luxurious fabrics of wool, chenille, suede and silk. A custom, expresso stained entertainment center unites media components.

Contemporary plumbing fixtures of chrome and copper mix with the floor and counters of German limestone. The resurfaced concrete floor is stained in bronze tones.

Do you ‘love to come home’? Some Tips

Written by faith | 1

As an expert Seattle interior designer, my tag line is ‘come home to a place you love’. After a busy day or a time away, we look forward to just being home, where we can be ourselves and surround ourselves with the familiar. Home is also a place that reminds us of what we haven’t gotten around to doing….

Before

There are a variety of ways to make your resolutions for 2010 your mission. As a starter, get organized, clear clutter and set a plan for your projects. Jenny Kasza says, “There are always things that need to be done,” she says. “When my house is full of things we don’t want or need anymore or things that are broken or not used, it seems to affect the energy of the house. But when I get control of things, I feel as if a weight has been lifted.

New Products for the Ultimate Bachelor Bath

Written by faith | 3

This expert Seattle interior designer smiled at this review of new products designed with men in mind. Apart from the narrow vanity unit, the tub and tile are gender neutral to me.

Let’s start witih the Erk System Bathroom. The designer Onur Mustak Cobiani created a gender specific vanity respecting the essential male tasks (hand-washing, tooth brushing and shaving) with space saving efficiency.

Next, the Saturn TV Tub by Karim Rashid. The TV screen is placed strategically at the bather’s eye-level. Enjoy your favorite program while comfortably soaking in your tub.

Fap Ceramiche line of tile, Futura, are rectangular and measure 6 x 22. The finish is a satin matte which allows the colors to step forward.

Welcome Wallpaper in 2010 - On Your Ceiling

Written by faith | 3

This expert Seattle interior designer is welcoming 2010 with open arms and anticipation. It feels great to let go of 2009! Over the past two-three years wallpaper is making a comeback in a big way. Plus wallpaper is not the wallpaper of memory. The choices are abundant with a range of styles and graphics.

One way to bring a fresh look with wallpaper is to use it on your bedroom ceiling. It is most effective if you have crown molding or can add it since it will separate the wallpaper from the painted walls.

Wallpapered ceilings create a feeling of intimacy and coziness, which is a special benefit during winter. “A wallpapered ceiling adds interest to a square room, but avoid using the same wallpaper for walls and ceilings, unless you have woodworking at the edges to break them up. Otherwise your square room will make you feel boxed in”, according to Toby of Design Unleashed.

The goal is a room like this one:

Please, avoid a room like this, unless you enjoy claustrophobia.
