A Special Place to Sit - At Your Window

Written by faith | 0

This Seattle interior designer is joyfully working on a wonderful project. Last Thursday I visited the site to meet my upholsterer, Jose Plata, who templated the new window seat. It is part of a sitting room addition to the master bedroom.

A window seat channels nostalgia with a romantic notion of leisure and indulgence. When you look at this one in construction you can imagine time to sit and watch the world go by.

As a designer, I notice how clients seek nooks and crannies for coziness. A window seat invites us and we feel comfortable and at home. A wonderful textile from Kravet, GP&J Baker is the selection for the seats and back cushions. A blue and white drapery will be a stunning finishing touch.

There is nothing like a window seat to inspire you to relax and unwind.

Call today - and create your perfect space -a haven from the chaos of an over-stimulated and hectic world of work, and life so you can relax and enjoy the rewards of your hard work.

Design Like the Pros, It’s in the Details

Written by faith | 0

Most often my interior design clients in Seattle share a magazine photo of a room that inspires them. Frequently pages torn from various magazines are clipped together or combined in a file folder. I am overjoyed!

We review and point to ideas and examples they completely love. Often, there are some constraints so we can’t duplicate the exact same thing. The style of their home may be different or the room size is larger or considerably smaller. Other things like the budget might get in the way. Whatever the impediment, I always try to discover the feeling they want to capture.

To uncover the secret to fine interior design requires analyzing the little things. A look at the current Elle Décor or Veranda reveals that successful designers combine unexpected textures, fresh color schemes and diverse style elements to create distinctive arrangements.

John Saladino, 'layered textures', Veranda

A memorable room isn’t about spending a huge amount of money, but rather selecting the best blend of furnishings. Designers are adept at scale and pay attention to size. We’ve all seen a chair too large for the room dominate and destroy the appearance of an otherwise well-designed room.

Another detail you can observe in magazines is a combination of styles that removes a ‘matched’ up furniture look. ‘Design is in the details’ is a common phrase spoken by interior designers. Practice patience knowing careful observations of the smallest elements of a photograph provide a road-map to a room like a design pro.

What’s in Your She-Space?

Written by faith | 0

Yesterday, I talked with Seattle friends over lunch about how they would design their ‘she-space‘. Yes, as an interior designer in Seattle, I know personal space is essential for re-charging. The ‘man cave’ is universal and part of our everyday speech and usually involves a big screen and leather furniture. But what exactly is a ‘she-space’. I describe a ‘she-space’ as somewhere in your home where you can escape to read, relax, knit or even meditate to reconnect with yourself.

What goes in the ‘She-Space‘?

  1. A comfortable place to sit for yourself and a friend.
  2. A place to store books and magazines.
  3. Connections for your IPod, Kindle, laptop or IPad.
  4. A lamp for reading or working on a hobby.
  5. Baskets or bins to keep clutter at bay.

In this image, a garden room niche is a perfect ‘She-Space’ escape. Comfortable chairs, plenty of light plus plants and a view create a personal space to relax.

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, we help you create an inviting, comfortable space - a personal ‘She-paceS’. Call us today 206.437.8000.

Come home to a place you love -Your style. Your touch. Your home.
