School Dazed? How to Get Productive at Home or in School

Written by faith | 1

Success in school and at work matters. And ‘back to school’ is the big news theme. Most parents are dedicated to their kids success in school since it influences their entire future. But, if you’re not a parent, and you’re the household king or queen, or you work from home either full or part-time, creating a great study or productive work area is key. So this Seattle interior designer has some tips for you.

Modular Office West Elm

1. Desk with storage and shelves I like this open shelved area for the opportunity to be both a student homework area or a home office one. Everything is in easy reach plus it’s cheerful.

2. Task lighting on the desk or a clamp light on the shelf will add illumination.

3. The chair is ergonomic for comfort so staying focused is much easier.
4. An iPod docking station would be an extra benefit (with headphones) to keep the noise level down.
5. Cord managers for less clutter.
6. Colored office supplies make organization
fun and easy.

Imagine your Outdoor Living Space is in Bali with a Thatched Roof

Written by faith | 2

My neighbor goes to Bali every year so I imagine a visit too. I pretend to be looking at the sand and water and sitting under a thatched umbrella sipping a tropical beverage. Not this year! But this Seattle interior designer found a source for an outdoor thatched umbrella and now elements of a Balinese patio are possible in Seattle. Your own South Pacific getaway.

Enter Amazulu! The story behind the company begins with Claire Evans.

“In 2002, Claire opened amaZulu, Inc. to pursue her dream to develop a natural architectural company that would introduce and develop new innovations and sustain higher service standards in the industry. The combination proved prudent and amaZulu secured accounts with Disney, Sea World, and Outback Steak House, soon thereafter.”

Capturing Style with Inspired Contemporary Lighting by Currey and Company

Written by faith | 0

My family in Southern California desires a contemporary ‘beachy style’ for their new home and enlisted me, the Seattle interior designer (and mother) to get started. The challenge involves a large open family room, a toddler (and brother on the way) and managing toys, space, socializing and entertaining. Oh, and did I mention safety, too? I started with this Currey Company table lamp.

Contemporary Talisman Table Lamp

I liked this lamp from Currey as a source for reading and ambient light but especially for the texture of the metal and contemporary style.

Pierced metal communicates a vintage look of old Tangiers and provides a contrasting style of lighting for a fresh new look. The pierced metal is a distinctive look that goes well with traditional or contemporary interiors.

Currey & Company creates these lamps on a base of treated iron, which is then electroplated with copper and nickel and finished with a thick layer of lacquer to ensure it will not oxidize. A variety of shapes and sizes offer a number of different choices. (from Currey)

Small gestures make a big impact - an exquisite tray, a family heirloom, a painting, vase or jewel box form a beautiful composition and add the personal touch that makes your home complete. Contact Faith Sheridan Design Group for inspired finishing touch accessories.

Outdoor Spaces and Outdoor Living in Seattle

Outdoor parties are in full swing and large gatherings mean more of everything, like wine. Today’s box wines are SO improved and the selections are excellent too. But a festive table means some improvements to the box wine are necessary. Welcome the House Doctor with this clever and sophisticated camouflage!

The simple white tags maintain the understated look of the containers.

Keep the metal look going with a tray for sharing drinks or appetizers or any of the myriad necessary condiments and tableware.

The traditional riveted construction of Pottery Barn’s handcrafted galvanized steel tray makes it perfect for entertaining with casual farmhouse style.

Chair to Treasure from Philippe Stark and Kartell - The Masters Chair

Written by faith | 0

Proving once again that good design need not be expensive, enter the Masters Chair. My Seattle interior design clients will savor this opportunity to add a classic, modern chair from a design master to their homes.

from Atticmag Masters Chair Philippe Stark

Per the NYTimes, Stark wove together three silhouettes by midcentury masters: Eero Saarinen’s Tulip chair, Charles and Ray Eames’s Eiffel chair and Arne Jacobsen’s Series 7 chair.

Yes, it will be come an icon.

Quoting Philippe Stark from the Times, “Quantum mathematicians teach us that we are merely the sum of our actions,” Mr. Starck said, noting that the chair’s “historical lines overlie each other and intersect to finally yield an organic design closest to our body today.”

Who benefits? YOU! Made of smooth batch-dyed polypropylene, the 33-inch-tall chair can be used indoors and out. It is $244 at Kartell stores. Information: (212) 966-6665 or kartell.com.

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, it’s all about you. We help you achieve your personal style. Relax and let us guide you through the process of design. Call us and comment if you love this chair too.
