Dreaming of Sun in Seattle: Before and After
Written by faith on May 15th, 2009With a home overlooking Lake Union near downtown Seattle, my client, a Florida transplant, wanted to recreate a sunroom. With west facing windows and water, her home offered an opportunity for a sunny-feeling, themed room to enjoy year around.
Here are 5 great ideas for decorating a sunroom to help you get started:
-
Use light colors when decorating to keep the room bright and cheerful. Light blues, greens and yellows are excellent choices for colors. We selected floral chintz to keep the Florida theme.
-
Have lots of plants scattered throughout the room. A variety of hanging plants, floor plants and table plants are recommended. I sourced this wonderful plant holder to place in front of the window.
-
Installing a ceiling fan would be a nice touch that can make you feel like the wind is blowing across your face as the sun is shining in. If a fan isn’t necessary, an unusual ceiling fixture with a floral theme works well.
-
When it comes to window coverings, consider a sheer Roman shade in 100% polyester to weather the sun or some version of blinds that filter the sunshine.
-
The furniture and accessories are essential to the enjoyment of the space. My client selected woven wicker chairs with comfy down filled cushions and a large oval ottoman from Hickory Chair, a glass table and a sisal rug as accessories. On the wall, two botanical prints carry the green plant theme.
