Give New Purpose to an Armoire or Wardrobe

Written by faith on September 9th, 2009

Remember the armoire as TV cabinet era? Not so long ago and over the years of my interior design practice I find them still placed in various rooms without a television. Many of these cabinets represent an investment into quality furniture. Other clients who enjoy antiques treasure a wardrobe for the storage available.

A consistent trend today is value and using or re-purposing furniture in our homes. I was thinking about this when I saw these images of armoires and wardrobes functioning as wine or wet bars in living rooms.

“What you see here is a 100-year-old wooden Tuscan wardrobe that’s undergone an elegant refitting. Its interior surfaces have been covered with decorative wallpaper, for example.” says Rita St. Claire.

I hope my readers will consider how they can repurpose similar pieces of furniture. Many years ago I had such an armoire. I hope someone considers a retrofit.
