Accessories to Quickly Freshen your Family Room

Written by faith | 0

In Seattle, interior designer Faith Sheridan feels a crispness in the air. Fall is here with crisp nights and golden sunlight days, and before too many more weeks, the weather will get cold, and you will be spending more time inside your home.

Now it’s time to think about any decorating updates that you’ve been ignoring since you haven’t been spending significant time inside. Accessories refresh your home quickly and easily.

For many people, gathering around the fireplace and drinking warm beverages is a family tradition, and since the fireplace may be your focal point in your room, is your mantel ready for a facelift?

How to Calm Condo Clutter? Go Vertical with California Closets

Written by faith | 4

For this Seattle interior designer, city living equals a condominium. Call it downsizing or urban living, it equates to less space. In a recent project the solution to condo clutter came with vertical solutions from California Closets. In this 1000 sf downtown Seattle view condo, the guest bedroom was also the office, a common situation. How to store files and still offer guests a place to land for a visit? What? no linen closet for extra towels, comforter, blankets?

For this project, the solution arrived in the form of maximizing vertical wall space within the condo. Let’s start with the guest/home office closet. First the client sorted out essential office requirements for space and files and then guest needs like bed size, a table and lamp and closet.

Multi purpose closet for guests and home office use

The closet now provides hanging space for a short term guest as well as office file storage for the home.

Next, the non existent linen closet. In the entry we swapped the existing entry closet for a 7 foot niche directly opposite. The wall displayed art and books which moved to another location. With a larger entry closet, essential linen storage has a place of its own plus the coats, boots, shoes, hats and entry clutter is hidden away too.

From comforters to coats and shoes in the entry closet

Probably the fastest and most efficient organization comes from a well organized closet. With an inventory in hand courtesy of California Closets, clothes, shoes, belts, purses and all are placed within easy view for my client.

A place for everything and everything in its place!

While you may not need a closet the size of Gayle King’s, we all benefit from a clutter cleanse and the sense of relief when we can find our clothes easily.

Vintage Decorating Flourishes in the Georgetown Seattle Design District

Written by faith | 0

Vintage decorating is alive and well from the vantage of Seattle interior designer Faith Sheridan. And the action and interior design ideas are abundant in the Georgetown, Airport Way neighborhood of the Seattle Design District. Walking the shops and seeing the well priced, authentic accessories countered the headline story from the NY Times this week, “All That Authenticity My Be Getting Old“.

With a group of friends this past Saturday, we thoroughly investigated a few stellar locations beginning with Kirk Albert and Susan Wheeler Home.

Not to confuse any tourists since there is only one Seattle Space Needle, a remnant from Seattle’s World Fair 1962 would have you believe otherwise.

Are there two Space Needles in Seattle?

As Stephen Drucker, former editor of House Beautiful, aptly stated in the NY Times article, “A 1930s pickling jar from Hungary, or anything Etsy,” he continued, “serves the same purpose as a 20-pound Swedish crystal ashtray did for my parents: It says, ‘We’re different, we’re daring, we’re not boring.’ ”

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, our home designs sparkle with finishing touch accessories. We know that Small gestures make a big impact - an exquisite tray, a family heirloom, a painting, vase or jewel box form a beautiful composition and add the personal touch that makes your home complete.

Add Glamor + Style in Any Room with a Mirror

Written by faith | 0

Oh such gorgeous mirrors this Seattle interior designer (Faith Sheridan) found at a ‘must-see’ boutique, Susan Wheeler Home. Always an advocate of using mirrors for glamor and style, I know an even more glamorous option is a mirror with age and patina. Beautiful interiors come alive with mirrors.

Susan Wheeler opened her Georgetown shop two years ago. Her vignettes inspire interior design ideas for rooms throughout your home ~ especially if you love mirrors and beautiful interiors as much as this Seattle interior designer.

Small gestures make a big impact - an exquisite mirror, a family heirloom, a painting, vase or jewel box form a beautiful composition and add the personal touch that makes your home complete.

At Faith Sheridan Design Group, “It’s all about the client and understanding. I look around their home and see how I can express who they are in my designs. I take it beyond what they would expect it would be,” says Faith. “I don’t work within a fixed style. I watch, listen and observe. It becomes a Gestalt. It is more than they imagined it would be.”
