Ceiling Art in Seattle? Original Frescoes
Written by faithFrescoes are an infrequent design element in my Seattle interior design practice. So using them in a recent project creates a new design element to love. Overuse is a no-no and I’m not fond of cutesy either ( a theme room or children’s bedroom is an exception). An addition/remodel project created the opportunity to use them in two areas: a breakfast nook ceiling and the outdoor space inglenook ceiling.
So what is a fresco? There is excellent information at the Fresco School website and I start with a quote from them, “fresco painting is the most practiced method of painting present in every culture and utilized by every known civilization for decorating of the most treasured environments, palaces, public places. It is said that fresco painting is the logical link between architecture and decoration.”
Starting with a vision from my clients, I turned to Charane and Richard Poyorena, Siena Faux and Mural in Bellevue, WA. Working as a team and using presentation boards and conceptual drawings, the outcome is a treasure and the frescoes ‘create the link between architecture and decoration’.

Custom Breakfast Room Fresco
The very careful attention to detail allows the design to integrate with the recessed ceiling fixtures. There is a wonderful chandelier from Currey and Company to complement, #9015 Axel Orb.
The inglenook ceiling adds special interest and an old world feel to the outdoor inglenook. Just as the stone mason carefully added each stone to the fireplace, Charane and Richard painted each area of the ceiling detail. Furniture soon!
