Interior Design Trends from the Portland Street of Dreams

Written by faith

As many of my readers know, this Seattle interior designer was a jurist for the 2012 Portland Street of Dreams. The winners in various categories were announced last week at a ceremony sponsored by Home Builders Association. It was exciting to see how our individual votes combined to reveal the winners in the categories. The 20/20 by Bernard was our favorite but many other homes were standouts too.

Best overall design winner

Best Interior Design was awarded to Delahunt for the Montauk…and this award was well-deserved by the design team of Richard White Home Designs.

Ceiling detail is stunning.

So what trends and takeaways did I see? Detail and attention to it was critical. The top designs represented excellent craftsmanship. The reclaimed wood message remains strong and revealed itself in kitchen counters using butcher block and also on floors and walls throughout. Reuse and recycle is a mantra seen throughout all the homes.

I was pleasantly surprised to see tile stage a come back especially in bathroom counters. After all these years of granite and more granite, tile is refreshing. So many opportunities to design with tile and I expect this trend to continue.

Clever use of tile on this vanity

The love of outdoor living was a clear trend in every home in the show. Pahlisch Homes was the winner with the Calistoga.
