Interior Designer Renovates Her Own Bathroom - the Demolition
Written by faithInterior designers often educate their readers about the best ways to renovate their homes, but I thought it would be fun to show you a renovation of my own bathroom and give you the designer’s perspective on our progress. I’ll take you from demolition to finished product over the next couple of weeks, so stayed tuned for the big reveal!
DAY ONE - DEMOLITION
Before
First thing the plumber comes to pull out the toilet which is a new Kohler dual flush that I will reuse.
Pulling off the tile
Curt from Tile Specialties (shown above) is excellent, and my plumber, JD is, too. I’m donating all the cabinet pulls and towel bars, toilet paper holder to the Re Store…which they will resell. The estimator loves them for “modern” kitchens/baths.
All my plumbing is Brizo. For my shower, I’m using the Brizo Odin Slide Bar with Hand Shower. I can’t wait to experience the H2Okinetic™ shower which creates the feeling of more water than a standard shower flowing at the same rate. Plus I’ll save water while enjoying a warmer, drenching shower experience. Cannot wait for this!

Since I’m “downsizing” from a 72″ to 60″ tub (remember I’m 60″) the space needs reframing as I will have a cubby to use for storage. My tile is a porcelain I purchased for $50 at an American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) WA auction, but I’m adding some tumbled 2×4 Noce Travertine for interest. I’ll also keep my Robern vanity cabinet…
Out goes the bathtub
It’s very dusty here and getting crowded, too. Today they deliver the tub and water heater… I think I’ll spend most of the day away! Check back next week for the next phase…
