Do You Want an Inspired Backsplash?

Written by faith | 0

Tile design is an important aspect of kitchen design. For current projects for my Seattle interior design firm, I’m designing tile patterns for bathrooms and kitchens. So many ways to go and I find I like to experiment with same color tile in variations of size and direction. It creates a textured design which can be a color statement with visual interest. The photo below (from newclement.com) is an example using a glass tile.

One Color Variation

Though the image below is not just one color, it represents a tone-on-tone or monochromatic solution that is appealing visually..and maintains a single size of tile for repetition. (image from http://www.floatproject.org/)

The next image mixes it up by changing the direction of the tile and using tile in similar colors. Probably one of the easiest ways to change up tile projects is to change the direction of the tile. (image from homemakeoverdiva.com)

Benches Are Essential For Your Bedroom

Written by faith | 1

In my Seattle interior design projects, I apply my motto that “every bedroom should have a place to sit”. Even for the smallest bedroom in your home, it’s important to find a place for a chair or ottoman. Next to your nightstand, it’s a great place to place a tray or books. Benches are placeholders for the outfit you plan to wear the next day or to a party. Same goes for your partner for his suit and tie.

I believe in benches or ottomans at the foot of the bed as a solution for putting on athletic shoes or a place to take a phone call. Plus ottomans and benches allow you to add color and function to a space at the same time.

You Can Create a Memorable Patio Party This Summer

Written by faith | 0

The temperature is rising and friends are gathering on the patio and outdoor space. This Seattle interior designer says, “You need to make your table its warm weather best!” So add some sizzle to your style.

Start your summer season with a great outdoor party and a memorable invitation. I found a great website for cards, http://www.invitationbox.com. This one caught my attention.

Next, set a colorful table! I adore the melamine tableware available through Williams Sonoma Home. The ethnic motif is a great opportunity to add design details. The pattern is La Med as shown in the photo below.

And regular readers of my website and blog see the bright table that makes a splash on this penthouse deck in the Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle. (Thank you Crate & Barrel)

Secrets in Full View on Your Bedside Table

Written by faith | 0

What’s on your bedside table? I am sharing mine.. I love this table from Hickory Chair in a custom finish designed by Alexa Hampton. The pull out tray, drawer and open shelf below make it so functional for this Seattle interior designer.

Love the pullout tray and drawer

But I wanted a custom finish which was easy to do with Hickory Chair..

Only thing missing is my IPAD

My bedside table contents remain pretty stable and it holds all my reading materials (which are in constant motion)… the addition of an iPad completes my addiction to reading in bed under the covers. (I removed the cup of tea, which is a ready companion, for this photo.)

I enjoy lounging in bed on the weekends and I keep a notepad in the drawers to jot down ideas.

So what else is on this table? a pair of reading glasses as I can’t read without them. Wayne Dyer’s daily meditation calendar, family photos so I can see my grandsons, the remnants of an orchid, minus flower, and titles from Bob Burg.
