1. Desk with storage and shelves I like this open shelved area for the opportunity to be both a student homework area or a home office one. Everything is in easy reach plus it’s cheerful.

My family in Southern California desires a contemporary ‘beachy style’ for their new home and enlisted me, the Seattle interior designer (and mother) to get started. The challenge involves a large open family room, a toddler (and brother on the way) and managing toys, space, socializing and entertaining. Oh, and did I mention safety, too?
