Seattle Interior Designer Dishes about Social Media Benefits

Written by faith | 0

When I received the request to join a panel this Wednesday at the Kravet Seattle showroom, I pinched myself again. As a Seattle interior designer, I reminded myself of all the benefits I enjoy because of social media.

I am honored to join Jennifer and Leah

My friends, professional and personal, increase every day. Sometimes we meet at distant places from Seattle such as High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina or at special events like Blogfest in NYC. Frequently it’s close to home which is even more special.

At the presentation this week, I know the question to ask is, “What has social media done for your business?” I will tell them it’s immeasurable and somewhat surreal. My communication circle grows and grows.. and not with superficial ‘likes’ or ‘follows’. Of course, those are available and present but so are the sincere, real connections I’ve made over my 3 year immersion into the swirl of social media via my blog, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Pinterest.

With Thomas O'Brien at Blogfest 2011

I so appreciate the support and generosity of this medium. In particular, I salute Kravet for one of my ultimate design experiences last May at Blogfest 2011. Talk about exceeding expectations! The editors of leading design magazines, the Kravet family, Barbara Barry and a tour of Kravet headquarters up front and personal. LOVED it all. See my photo below with Barbara Barry as part of this amazing event.

If you’re in Seattle on Wednesday this week, I hope you’ll come to the Seattle Design Center and Kravet Showroom. Love to hear your questions and meet you in social media.

Thomas O’Brien Moment in NYC at Blogfest 2011

This Seattle interior designer enjoyed a moment and quick conversation with Thomas O’Brien during Blogfest 2011. Seeing Seattle on my name tag he shared that he is currently designing a West Elm store to open this September on Westlake Avenue near Whole Foods. Seattleites will be pleased to have this resource in this emerging area near the Amazon campus. But this photo was all about his Lee Jofa collection and the vignette.

Faith with Thomas O'Brien

Here’s a quick overview from Hickory Chair, “For over a decade, Thomas O’Brien has been one of the design industry’s best known modern taste-makers. With a focus on vintage forms translated for modern living, O’Brien’s designs are executed in a spectrum of luxurious materials that are at once elegant and easy, crisp yet anything but cold. This warm, engaging spirit embodies his collaborations.” Listen to his philosophy.

Serendipity at Blogfest 2011 - Indochine

Written by faith | 4

Unexpected coincidences delight this Seattle interior designer. In the whirlwind of the fast paced activities organized by Kravet for Blogfest 2011, serendipity arrived when Richmond designer Susan Jamieson and I decided to have dinner after touring the Elle Decor Modern Life Concept House. One year earlier another designer friend, Teri Peck, treated me to a birthday dinner at Indochine.

From Urbanspoon, “A favorite with New Yorkers and World Travelers since its opening in 1984, Indochine is a timeless classic that combines stylish ambiance, tropical decor, and exotic French-Vietnamese cuisine.”

Imagine my delight the following day, at the Kravet showroom in the D & D building, Barbara Barry introducing her latest collection, !

I hope readers will listen to the video of Barbara describing her inspiration and vision for this collection. Her voice transports and creates a connection to the images.

Textile Junkie Thanks Kravet Fabrics for Day 3 of Blogfest 2011

Written by faith | 0

What a treat! Blogfest 2011 courtesy of Kravet Fabrics surpassed all expectations. This Seattle interior designer has so much to share but I begin with my favorite day and activity, a tour of the company offices and a peek into the fabric divisions. But first, let me say, that I am a textile lover, fanatic, junkie (if you will). Spending time with the artisans working at the headquarters was a total high. Thank you Kravet!

Recolor selections for existing pattern

In past blog posts, I talk about Ikat designs and my penchant to include them in my design concepts. They are timeless, enough said. See previous posts, here and here.

After the Ikat, I love the Suzani and the long history of this textile which I have also blogged about in past blog posts.

Classic suzani to be updated

This particular morning invigorated my design juices and passion for design. Some day soon I hope I can return and spend time again with the smart, savvy, friendly artisans who keep Kravet Fabrics at the forefront of the interior design industry. Thank you Kravet so very much.
