‘Click’ With Your Clients

Written by faith | 0

A few weeks ago, Halie Rosenberg, a Growers guest contributing writer, contacted me. As an interior designer in Seattle, I was intrigued with her story concept for the blog, http://www.growersandnomads.com. After some conversation with Halie, I shared the story of ‘clicking’ with a client around a mutual love of cooking and the story unfolded.

A Kitchen for the Whole Family

The outcome of the conversation, Halie’s article, related the essence of a successful client and designer relationship: listening carefully. In this instance, I learned about the importance of family gatherings, large and small, and how the kitchen was a central feature. When I listened to my client, I immediately saw the kitchen and it’s design with two islands ( many cooks), lot of seats and the necessary appliances.

To Halie’s question, “What element(s) turn a space into a happy home?” I answered, “A comfortable home is all about you—your lifestyle and personality that you want to express.”

If you want that perfect home for entertaining your friends and family, the team at Faith Sheridan Design Group is here to help. 206.437.8000.

Loving Landscape Color in the Northwest

Written by faith | 0

This expert Seattle interior designer is delighted to see Tina Dixon acknowledged this past Sunday in the Pacific Northwest insert of the Seattle Times. Tina is engaging, authentic and brings her own personal style to a project and I am pleased to be co-designing with her on a 900 square foot roof deck facing Lake Washington in Madison Park.

Tina’s signature is color.. not just in her plantings but in her containers. My clients on this project embrace color as well and thus it’s a great fit and team for everyone. At at meeting today, the team from Prestige Custom Builders, Matt and Seth, shared their vision for the ‘hardscape’. I am eager to share this project once we get it moving. So look for photos as construction gets started.. It will be quick as summer in Seattle will soon beckon us outdoors.

In the meantime, enjoy some of the images from Tina’s story in the Pacific Northwest Magazine.

Day 14 Design Inspirations - Majolica

Written by faith | 0

Recently, when I visited another designer’s home, I was reminded of my affection for Majolica in general and plates in particular. She displays them in her kitchen but Majolica can be art on a wall in almost any room. As an expert Seattle interior designer I keep my eyes alert for vintage pieces and also like mugs and pitchers.

The Majolica I refer to is, “Victorian Majolica, earthenware pottery made in 19th century Britain, Europe and the USA with molded surfaces and colorful clear lead glazes.” You can recognize Majolica by “its naturalistic plant and animal motifs molded in relief and splashed with bold color and clear glazes.”

The colors and motifs are varied as the photos indicate. I am most attracted to the plates artfully displayed on a focal wall and used instead of a picture. What do you think? Would you collect and display Majolica?

Day 13 Design Inspirations - Lucite

Written by faith | 0

Interior design is a composition, a canvas that explores and combines and finally configures as a unit. It is that aha that creates a memory. Lucite or acrylic offers that medium. This expert Seattle interior designer knows that it should be used with restraint and appropriateness.

So what is Lucite? A more technical term is acrylic resin. Acrylic resins are a group of related thermoplastic or thermosetting plastic substances derived from acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or other related compounds.

Enough of the technical… here are some Lucite inspirations

Mariette Himes Gomez designed the ‘Crystal Side Table’ for Hickory Chair… it adds a touch of whimsy with practicality.

Another versatile and practical Lucite or acrylic piece of furniture is this trunk. What a beautiful way to display a collection of antique quilts or textiles.

You can see more pieces including this trunk at Plexi craft.

Sceptre Co., Ltd.

This barstool is well described on the website, “Simply shaped, functional stool offers a comfortable, integrated footrest that doubles as storage space for magazines and other print materials. The clear acrylic, brings playfulness to kitchens and work spaces. The barstool quickly dissolves into the environment and leaves an unobstructed view of anything beyond or below its surface. UV protected, the Magino Barstool is suitable for outdoor use.”

Day 12 Design Inspirations - Small Seats

Written by faith | 0

These days we’re entertaining and spending more time at home with our friends and family. Finding a seat for more can be a challenge. In my design practice as an expert Seattle interior designer, I often use ‘small seats’, my name for them. Sometimes they function as a seat, other times as a place for feet, books or beverages. These small seats are no wider or taller than 20-22 inches. I selected a few to share for assorted tastes and settings. Consider adding some small, multipurpose seats at your home.
