Our clients often desire a home design with unique character, in addition to functionality that works just for them and their lifestyle. So where do I seek the “special?” Answer… at a huge venue in North Carolina called High Point Market!
This bi-annual market includes a massive display (over 180 buildings!) of furnishings, accessories and all things home. This year, I took a list aimed at accessories, comfy chairs with extra room, lamps and linens. One trend I noticed in particular was a market-wide embrace of color! But today I want to share 5 trends that caught my eye and that I think you’ll especially love. Let’s dive in…
1. Ethnic and Cultural Influence in Home Design
My clients love to travel and in so doing, they see cultural influence and appreciate the unique flavor they add to a home. Whether rattan or wicker, graphic textiles or fabric prints, these items help them reflect a vision of the perspective and worldliness they’ve acquired on their own with travel.
2. Warm, Earthy Colors like Persimmon
Building on Trend #1, I saw a ton of persimmon-toned accents in furnishings. What is ‘persimmon’ exactly? Google says, “One part orange, one part red, and one part blazing sunset. Persimmon is a bold, passionate hue that adds of jolt of energy to any room or space. This dramatic hue makes a big splash, so whether it’s used on a decorative accent or a feature wall, Persimmon is guaranteed to draw the eye and brighten your mood.”
If you have a second home in a warmer climate, I bet you are familiar with Persimmon!
3. Remarkably Comfortable Chair and Settee
This upholstered chair is perfectly wide (43″) for getting cozy with a pet or a young grandchild. The ultra down seat cushion and blend down back cushion make this chair remarkably comfortable. With custom fabrics, the chair becomes a perfect fit all the way around.
4. The Staying Power of Blue in Home Design
Blue endures. I can always count on it as a home design solution. My belief was reinforced in full view in High Point. From bedding to lamps, from rugs to chairs, and so on, there was blue. What makes blue so appealing to me is its ability to mingle with so many other colors. This year it was paired with brown (not my favorite), orange, yellow, pink and more. Is blue a design solution for you?
5. Luxury Bedding For Actual Sleep
We’ve all seen picture perfect master beds with gorgeous fabrics, trims, and abundant pillows. Does that picture inspire and beckon you to restorative sleep? What is a solution for you? Do you have pets who will join you and therefore fabric is important? Companies are finally on the same page with ease of care and luxury, too.
Thanks for joining me on a recap of my High Point journey and favorite trends. Since I was sourcing home design solutions for clients, I am especially excited for you to see how some of these will come to life in our clients’ homes.
