When you think of hiring an interior designer for your Seattle condo renovation, you probably imagine beautiful curtains, luxurious furniture, and a picture-perfect space… but did you know our services include a LOT more than that?
Today I’m sharing 7 of the biggest advantages of a professional interior designer. To help illustrate each, I’m including details from a recent design project: a refreshed downtown Seattle condo… with a twist.
The twist? The couple spent the entire design process living in their Santa Barbara home! (Thanks to technology, design at a distance can work.) They were able to avoid the annoying and necessary construction and vendors, and we did the rest…
#7. Timeline Efficiency
Interior designers are professional time managers. Thanks to experience and extensive knowledge about the process (and its pitfalls), we are able to keep your project as efficient as possible.
For our Seattle condo couple, they visited to review plans, and we spoke often on the phone, emailed, looked at photos, and I sent samples. I alerted them for timely decisions to keep the update moving efficiently. Yes, we had our ‘construction’ moments, but these moments didn’t interrupt progress, I’m pleased to say. Even an unexpected water leak in the building was but a brief interruption.
#6. Professional Management of Your Budget
As the interior designer who developed their design vision, I also shared proposals ,so they participated in approving financial decisions. Often we reviewed and sourced an alternative to achieve the perfect balance of desired price, materials of integrity, and great quality.
For example, an older fireplace in all the units of the building needed some critical updates. Finding a vendor with knowledge about the parts and who could meet the Seattle condo’s building standards was critical. That fireplace was a very important element of the refresh too. With lots of input from the husband, we also splurged on the hardwood floor. It is so beautiful and they love the selection. Everyone who visits remarks on the floor.
Budgeting is a balance, takes a keen eye, and also includes spotting costly mistakes before they’re ever made. This is where having a professional designer on your team will save in the long run.
#5. A Uniquely Functional Seattle Condo
For these clients in particular, travel is a big component of their lifestyle and the husband’s work. Improving the closet made it easier for him to gather travel apparel and have smooth, peaceful transitions.
Another major part of their lifestyle is their dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He travels, too. I added a long hallway runner to minimize slipping and scratches, plus introduced the color scheme throughout. In the same entry area, an architectural console, unique mirror (for that last look) and a special silver bowl for keys, fobs, mail is on the surface. This area supports the frequent trips outside for the dog, clients and organizes coming and going.
This is all proof that interior design is about MUCH more than beauty. It’s about creating a home that makes your life as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
#4. Personal Design that Doesn’t Look Like Your Neighbor’s
When choosing to work with an interior designer, you might be tempted to request that beautiful interior you saw in House Beautiful or Architectural Digest. But the real value of interior design isn’t in having a home that looks like your neighbor’s. You want a space that reflects who you are and what you love.
In the condo I’m describing, we carefully evaluated the couple’s existing furniture. Some were definitely keepers, like the Holly Hunt blue leather chair and ottoman, barstools, and dining table. Sofa and chairs needed to go… the sun and time had worn them down.
A chaise was reupholstered in a Sunbrella chenille (completely spill- and stain-proof) for a favorite reading location. Motorized shades support the view and offer shade with a touch of the remote. All of these design details reflect a lifestyle and my clients’ personalities.
#3. A Network of Trusted, Talented Professionals
Any project and its outcome are due in large part to ALL of the people and vendors who work on it. For our Seattle Condo reno, an amazing General Contractor set the standard and all the other vendors — like the tile installer, electrician, wood floor installer and painter — supported that standard.
I make certain to find some of the best in Seattle and work closely with them time and time again. When I request a proposal from vendors, I review it carefully and then share it with my clients who pay them directly under the terms of an agreement. You can rest easy that you’re getting pre-vetted, highly professional craftsmen!
#2. Unparalleled Peace of Mind During & After Your Condo Reno
Over the length of this condo refresh, my clients enjoyed the sunshine of Santa Barbara, knowing that their Seattle condo project refresh was going well. A few trips for a view and some decisions added confidence in our management and decisions.
As the date to install new and refreshed furnishings neared, the excitement was palpable. And oh, such glee as they entered the newly refreshed Seattle condo!
#1. The Life You’ve Always Imagined
As I said before, interior design goes beyond beauty. Our clients rave about the comfort of their furniture and swivel chairs, but as for their lifestyle, the chairs make it so easy to look at the sunset, sailboats, or the condo interior that now feels like home.
Tables and lamps are strategically located for coffee and reading, and we made it easy to add guests to the seating for nights spent entertaining. Of course, all new appliances of the latest variety add to the cooking exploration (our latest clients selected a Monogram Advantium, my favorite) and a whole new realm of cooking opened for them.
These might sound like small changes, but they add up to creating the life this couple always dreamed of living. That’s no small feat!
Before I wrap this up, I just want to share how much joy I get from this process, too. Creating something you love and hearing those rave reviews afterward delights my designer soul. I’m am so grateful to be able to do this for our clients, near or far.
If you think your next project could benefit from this kind of experienced, caring professionalism, I would be delighted to help. Let’s get in touch!
