My Penthouse Project Has The Blues ~ Indigo Blue

Loving Indigo Blue ~

It was a year ago I wrote about indigo blue and the enduring allure of blue textiles. “We love our denim so it’s no surprise we also love blue, indigo blue. Long associated with jeans and jackets, blue, especially indigo blue, is trending throughout interior design. From entire rooms or accent walls, it is a popular color.” And so design history repeats in the furnishings selections of a new penthouse project. It all started with a rug which fit perfectly into the entry space with a few shades of blue.

Blue inspiration

The detail of the rug shows the many blue options and my client’s foot! This rug started the exploration of textiles for the multiple seating arrangements in the large view penthouse condo.

For a couple with teens who enjoy entertaining, we created 4 seating arrangement and all allow amazing views from the 24th floor of Seattle.

Here’s the final furniture plan

Back to Indigo Blue

Color and symbols are closely tied so indigo blue is associated with leadership along with ‘blue collar status’. And today’s denim is both a statement about a casual lifestyle as well as high fashion. Seattle is surrounded by water and sky, so blue seems a perfect design option. Whether midnight or sky blue it speaks to our moods ~ joy, melancholy, mystery.

With neutral walls and sofa fabrics, the blue rugs anchor and define the seating. But the pillows add the punch to the pattern scheme.
