The Color Season 2015 is Here-Does it Matter?

As I write this post I’m thinking about the color season presentations I attended this week. First there was Leatrice Eiseman who is often called ‘America’s color guru’ especially via her role with Pantone. “For most consumers today, color and style coordination in home interiors is a consistent goal, but the old rigid color rules have been replaced by more creative guidelines and options.” On this statement I can wholeheartedly agree with Leatrice by the direction of my current projects.

Color and Design Trends Pantone 2015

A current whole house remodel with a young couple fits the description of Serendipity. Per Leatrice and Pantone, that translates to ‘a pleasant surprise or a happy accident’. It is bold, adventuresome and unites color surprises and graphic designs. I might also say, ‘it’s a happy color palette’ that sends a message to family and guests about the couple. As the designer, I’m enjoying developing the selections for furnishings with them for this open concept, contemporary home.

Outgoing, energetic colors

Accents of orange meet the soft blue and are balanced by the taupe used on the walls. The bright green adds to the mix of energy. Accent pillows and small ottomans or poufs are the perfect furnishing to bring together such a color palette.

Energetic colors for contemporary home

On the other side of the color theme, my high-rise condo interprets Past Traces. Pantone translates these colors as honoring history as many of us hold on to vestiges of the past. These colors provide reassurance and can be added to current color trends with ease.

Colors with some history or vintage

For my client, with lots of bold, contemporary art and Asian antiques, the background of warm gray is the neutral. The actual color is Benjamin Moore Color Stories, CSP-70, named Upper West Side.

Oh and by the way, Leatrice didn’t share the color of the year to come so like all of you I’m waiting for the next color announcement. As a former member of Benjamin Moore’s Residential Advisory Council, you can contact me to discuss colors and much more about your interiors. 206.973.3743 or on my website share your questions.

I absolutely love that gray (Upper West Side)! It’s great to get the behind-the-scenes opinion from a designer on how trends in color are changing. Thanks for sharing!

Samantha, thanks for the comments. I’m eager to see Upper West Side on the walls in this downtown Seattle condo. I’ve had a great outcome with the Benjamin Moore colors in the Color Stories series. They work well with the light and color temperature in our city and the Pacific Northwest.
