Same rug in previous home
Such a delight and fulfillment as a designer to please a passion like custom rug design. And so it is with this story which I’d like to share with you.
The birth of this custom rug design actually started in an earlier home with my client. (no photos). I found a textile remnant, complex and interesting. From that starting point the design continued with custom wool and silk fiber colors and then a strike-off for approval. (Strike-offs are samples of a design idea created to help clients evaluate colors and layout before the actual production of a custom rug. There are three types of strike-offs: digital strike-offs, paper strike-offs, and carpet strike-offs.) Our version was carpet which was so helpful with this complex design.
In the second image, the carpet tells a pattern story using numerous colors with the combination of wool and silk. This home was an extensive remodel of the main floor and the kitchen was featured in this blog post. You can see a small part of this dining room photo from the kitchen.
But a desire for a simpler lifestyle from a busy professional life found my client moving to a townhouse in a historical conversion named Sanctuary in the fall of 2013. In the vibrant neighborhood of Capitol Hill, access to numerous shops and restaurants allows easy convenient interaction and entertaining. Thus the custom rug travels again.
A multi-level home ( 4 stories) provides the perfect home for the rug as seen in the first photo. A custom banquette built to my specification fills the niche and a custom live edge table reclaimed from the waters of the Puget Sound beckons guests. The finishing touches are still coming to the townhouse including art placement.
I refer to myself as a design textologist (aka, textile junkie). It’s part of my Gestalt signature in my interior designs. Interested? Give us a call 206.973.3743 or use the contact page to tell about yourself and your project.
