Companions in Your Home ~ All Important End Tables

The world is full of important companions. In the home decorating world, one of the very-important but often neglected aspects of a room is an end table. I’m designing living rooms for clients these days and find I’m carefully searching for that companion table. The perfect end table completes the look of the seating arrangement and functions for the family too.

I like drawers and shelves as they keep an order to the items that accumulate. Clutter is a no no for me so I assist my clients by proposing end tables with storage options. Here are two from Hooker Furniture and Hickory Chair.

When selecting and searching for an end table, I keep foremost in my mind the scale ~ not too large as to dwarf nor too small as to appear out of proportion. See scale, proportion and function all together in this room setting from my project,

Questions to ask about the end tables in your room. Will they hold a lamp? How about a glass or mug? some decorative items? and the shelf below is perfect for magazines, a tray and more. If you live in a space challenged home, drawers take on greater importance for stashing all kinds of things!

The ever important questions is style? I’m not a designer to match up tables (or lamps) in a room. So do mix it up a bit without compromising the look and feel of the room you desire. In my design work I aim for a ‘collected look’ and that means adding pieces that have style and some personality. Adding an interesting end table to the mix of furniture in your living room is a sure way to achieve a style that tells a story about you and your home.

Wondering about heights of your tables? Think of them as slightly higher or lower than the arm that is next to it. This makes it comfortable for the person using the table. Try the new ‘SHOP’ tab on our website and do some searching on your own.
