How to Complement Ethnic Design for Clients

How to Complement Ethnic Design for Clients

My clients collect Southwest art, rugs and pottery showing a love of ethnic design. And trend reports suggest ethnic designs are popular. They live in an Arts and Crafts home and also enjoy transitional design. So my challenge is to blend and enhance the collection as we furnish the living and dining rooms.

From the Pendleton Collection

This is the dining room rug from the Pendleton Reserve Collection which draws from Pendleton and other historic blanket designs. Shades of terra cotta, ivory and deep blue define the Navajo pattern. In keeping with the Arts and Crafts architecture of the home, the table is from Stickley in cherry.

For the chandelier in this room, I sourced from Fine Arts Lamps, a favorite resource of high quality lighting fixtures. This oblong chandelier has a rich bourbon finish with golden highlights. The hand-tailored shades feature interior of ivory crepe suspended within a shimmering screen of bronze organza.

Now that the dining room selections are complete, it’s time to complement the ethnic designs in the living room. I found a perfect fabric to place on the neutral solid sofa from Kravet. Since I totally love Ikat patterns, this pattern is heaven sent for throw pillows. Called Tegal, it’s a linen blend with a decidedly Southwestern flavor.

At Faith Sheridan Design we share our love of ethnic patterns in our projects. By adding an ethnic design to your home you add interest and a conversation topic. This year or any year invite the exotic into your home.
