A Clean Home for Design or Tabula Rasa

A Fresh Start in Your Home

Enter 2014 with a Tabula Rasa~A Clean Slate for Your Design

My Latin teacher would be pleased that I recalled the phrase, ‘Tabula Rasa’. It just strikes me as appropriate for interior design after disposing of holiday decorations, trees, tinsel and more. I found this definition, “the mind in its hypothetical primary blank or empty state before receiving outside impressions”. I think it could also apply to your home. For myself, once those items are cleared, I feel a rush of energy and excitement as my own interior looks so fresh to me and full of opportunities.

And by now we’ve all see the multitude of predictions for 2014. From no more all white kitchens to macrame. I think it’s interesting to read and hear these predictions but for me they are just that, opinions. Some seem more reliable than others for interior design in ever changing, thank goodness. So before you ‘receive those outside impressions‘ from predictions, get your look book going and imagine the possibilities for your home.

Where and what room calls to you? My kitchen is calling or maybe screaming to me for attention. And it’s clearly time to take on the challenge of a small condo kitchen. My solution has been incubating for a few months with just some final details to complete.

This backsplash from a project in House Beautiful caught my attention immediately. My kitchen is in an interior location thus no natural light so reflecting some has lots of appeal. My cabinets won’t be white or my counters black, however. My love is Calacatta Gold for the counters with a small area of reclaimed wood countertop next to the stove on the right.

Finally I will have my induction cooktop, hooray, and the wall oven I crave. After my trip to Jenn Air last October, I knew I found them. So I’m working my plan with a clear intention for my new kitchen. What’s your plan for your home? Ready to take a dream to a reality?
