Is Cupid in Your Kitchen?

Is there a place for CUPID in your kitchen? I certainly hope so because that’s the place we spend so much of our day. We gather our family and friends for hours each day while cooking and chatting so the ‘cupid factor’ is a vital ingredient of the kitchen. Each year at the annual Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), manufacturers gather to show off to designers, editors and each other what’s new and trending. These new introductions mirror the direction and desires of the consumer as they plan for updates in this primary room in their home. So here’s a look at the ‘Cupid‘ factor from KBIS>

kitchen trends for 2016 from the NKBA

  • Clean lines, transitional style and less details or ornamentation; industrial and farmhouse both are popular styles
  • Cabinets feature two or more cabinet colors or finishes in the same kitchen e.g. black/white
  • Pullouts, tilt-outs, lifts add to better storage and recycling our trash
  • Wood or wood-like flooring
  • Different materials on the counters for island and perimeter, sometimes a different color too
  • Wine refrigerators, built-in coffee stations, wet bars
  • Pet spaces that include feeding stations and storage for pet food
  • Docking and charging stations are a major trend
  • Outdoor kitchens remain popular especially in suitable climates

Linda Holt writes a popular blog and captured the essence of KBIS trends with this photo and clever post.

The Cupid Effect as a Kitchen Man Cave tops the trends list. According to the WSJ, “When it comes to designing the home kitchen, say data and industry pros, men increasingly wish to be heard. No wonder: According to a 2012 University of Michigan study of Americans born from 1961 to 1981, married and single men now cook more than their fathers did, an average of about eight meals a week.”

What does a Man Cave Kitchen look like? “there’s often an emphasis on “work flow or machinelike efficiency,” Guys, view the kitchen as a new adventure.” Read this article here. I do think lots of women would also love the Man Cave Kitchen, Right on Cupid!
