Kitchen Remodels Kick Off 2015

This Seattle interior designer hears the phone ringing and receives EM’s both with inquiries about kitchen remodels. So it’s great timing to present some recent data around the real costs of a kitchen remodel. You see TV shows and Houzz don’t include all the costs (but those kitchens are quick and pretty) so it’s confusing to consumers seeking an idea of a realistic budget.

Another item on my calendar is the major industry show KBIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry Show) which starts next week in Las Vegas. More about this at the end of my post.

I’m pleased to share a great post and recent data logged by Hadley Court. This is especially timely with KBIS coming up and all the press and stories to follow. Take a look as the information contained will shed a light on the kitchen remodel costs you are likely to encounter in your research and in 2015.

The real costs of a kitchen remodel in 2015

What are the 3 major costs of a kitchen remodel?

  • Cabinetry
  • Appliances
  • Countertops

Keep in mind this very important comment from the blog post, “labor is typically 60% or so of the overall investment you will make in your kitchen and the subs command premium prices, especially in areas of the country where there is high demand for their services.” Here in Seattle, contractors and their subs are very busy.

Hire professionals if at all possible for this very important investment in your home. “Professional kitchen and bath designers are worth every penny of the approx. 20% or so they typically charge in design fees of your overall project investment.” And becoming your own contractor is a risky idea to save costs. Here’s why, “Disrupting the knowledge that these tradespeople have developed about each others work methods over time will not be worth it. It disrupts their work flow and communication patterns on your job site and causes headaches and delays, and these cost you more money in the long run than you will have saved.” Amen.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m off to KBIS and Las Vegas but don’t intend to honor the mantra, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Instead I’ll be updating my insights in a future post.
