My client wanted her music room design to include more furnishings. When we started she had one chair. The goal of my design work was a plan for seating for her to read by the fireplace and gather friends who are eager to listen to her play. The seating needed to be customized as the piano is 7′ 6″ in a 15×15 room. So it takes up 50% of the space.
Starting with a SketchUp concept of the proposed room arrangement, I allowed for the existing custom cabinet that provides storage for music and compositions. The music room design uses a sectional with a chaise end near the fireplace. My client has her happy place to read, stretch her legs and enjoy the fire. We added a new side chair and 2 round leather ottomans. The flexible music room design permits a impromptu concert or her personal enjoyment.
In the photo below, a new wool area rug anchors the space and furniture. It provides sound absorption too. The color palette is a soft creamy yellow with blue accents. My client loves the soft glow.
A keystone of my design philosophy is a table for glasses, cups plus food which minimizes spills. I maintain that a nearby table gives my clients and their guests a comfort zone. As you see, there is one to the right of the chaise for my client with a floor lamp nearby and a round table for guests.
Here’s the testimonial from my client, “I am loving my room! Spend a lot of time in here. The round leather stools look great. (Have already had company sit on one and love it!!) I like the rug more visible under the piano. Added an orchid as well and a splash of blue to the shells which looks pretty. The piano sounds way better with the rug under it. Feels complete in here now and like I have a grown up room!!
Thanks for everything and for doing such a great job!!”
