As frequent entertainers and members of a gourmet dining group, these busy clients wanted to transform their outdoor space. We’d worked with this family for a number of years, creating designs for indoor spaces and we were thrilled to be called back in for this project.
Seeking to better use the patio and backyard, my clients reached out to our firm for ideas and solutions. They desired a space for relaxing, reading, cooking and entertaining that works most of the year in Sammamish, Wash. Circulation to the adjacent kitchen and family room became the starting point for a solution with a revised door system in the breakfast nook. A local architecture firm contributed to the team to bring all the elements together into a creative, cohesive and dramatic design solution. The finished outcome is an outdoor living and entertaining oasis.
The solution defines areas for an outdoor kitchen, dining, entertaining and relaxing. The covered portion includes heaters for chilly days and evenings along with chandeliers for ambiance. An inglenook with a gas fireplace is a respite for cozy conversations. This area quickly became a sought after destination for family and guests.
The outdoor kitchen includes a built-in grill, a refrigerator and sink with custom cabinets. The existing outdoor dining set is maintained.
Guided by the clients’ love of art, history and artifacts, we worked with the architect to include details like the hand-painted ceiling fresco in the inglenook and the subtly placed elephant in the fireplace stones. See if you can locate the elephant.
New conversational outdoor seating suits entertaining small to mid-sized groups for a couple who enjoy entertaining a gourmet group. The gas fireplace in the cozy, covered inglenook is a perfect spot to relax with family and friends as temperatures or rain falls around them. The finished outdoor living and entertaining area is truly an oasis.
