Performance Fabrics Love Your Home

What used to be called ‘Sunbrella’ is now called Performance Fabric. And your home will love performance fabric no matter what! They are used on soft goods inside and outside and ready for you to put to work. In other words they want to Perform. The Thibaut fabrics shown below represent the trend-setting fabrics and wallpaper this company is known for. Designers eagerly await new intros from Thibaut and for good reason. Browse this link to see some dazzling inspirations.

So what do we know about performance fabrics? Way back in 1961 Sunbrella arrived as an alternative to cotton for use in awnings. It didn’t fade due to its unique construction. First it’s acrylic vs. natural fiber and the colors pigments are added prior to production. Soon the use of ‘solution dyed fabric’ (another name) became known as the go-to fabric in hospitality, healthcare and now residential interiors. The image below shows how far Sunbrella is front and center in home interiors today.

Perennial Fabrics is a another favorite for me in this category. The designs of the fabrics are so special, sophisticated and colorful. And they are performance fabric.

Currently I’m using a wonderful fabric called Swish..on a breakfast room sofa. No worries when the grandkids come to visit or you spill your coffee.

Probably the most fashion forward brand for me today is Mokum Textiles. I’m using them for window-coverings, two headboards and bedding in a current project. Based in New Zealand, the textiles are culturally influenced and by the sublime surroundings of their homeland.

No longer are solution dyed/performance fabric stiff either. They now look and feel like most fabrics. And if you’re concerned about getting tough stains like red wine out of Sunbrella or performance fabrics, here is a useful chart to reference. Save it as I know all to well that it will come in handy.
