Sketchup Equals Success

Sketchup equals success for my creative communication with clients. These days a 3-D picture is the quick way to come to agreement with my clients around the design concept direction. It’s the ‘Ah Ha’ moment when the vision comes into focus. For example, in my Sanctuary Townhome project, we have a tall, narrow home with multiple floors. (Also a great fitness feature!)

In the main level which includes the kitchen, dining and entry, I wanted to design an eating space that took advantage of the 9′ wide niche by recessing a banquette. In the image below, you see how it fits into the space and maintains the existing sconces.

When we execute the banquette it will also be a lounge and reading area with loose pillows propped against the sides for reading, phone calls and such. Plus it can comfortably seat 8-10 guests.

The plan is to find a piece of reclaimed wood from Meyer Wells and then fabricate a suitable base that suits the finishes in the home which also includes metal.

Once my client was able to see the 3D drawing the direction became clear and we’re on the way to getting the banquette from vision to reality.

We also used Sketchup in this project with the bedroom level area. We decided to convert one wall into glass to allow the light to flow into the level. Privacy will come via motorized shades. After many iterations we established direction with this drawing.
