The Best Part of Interior Design - The Reveal Party!

Custom Reveal Party Invite

It was a perfect September Saturday for a reveal party. My clients anticipated eagerly this celebration of their condominium design and the opportunity to invite 20+ friends to a catered reveal party I designed just for them. The custom designed invitation from Studio Grace captures perfectly the inspiration of the design…my client’s favorite dress. Thus the reveal party invitation says,…

Honor Mother Earth on April 22nd (and Everyday)

My celebration of Earth Day started nearly one month ago with a guest invitation to Seattle International Interior Design Association’s (IIDA) Leadership Breakfast. And how fitting that the honoree, from Seattle, is Denis Hayes. He rose to national prominence in 1970 as the coordinator of the first Earth Day. Hayes founded the Earth Day Network and expanded it to more than 180 nations.
Adding perspective, the keynote speaker, Vincent Stanley of Patagonia, emphasized that of…

Sit Back & Relax - Gorgeous Chaises and Settees

Is there anything more elegant than the chaise longue? Even the name evokes images of ancient Egyptian pharoahs being fanned and fed grapes! As a matter of fact, it is believed that the chaise longue (or long chair) originated in ancient Egypt as a combination daybed and chair.
I love working with the chaise and its cousin the settee (a small couch or loveseat). Chaises and settees are the perfect small space alternative to the…

From Texas Grandeur to Seattle Chic

I recently had the pleasure of assisting a couple who relocated from Texas to Seattle. Their Texas-sized furniture was too big for their new downtown condo, so I stepped in to bring the perfect scale and solution to their urban 15th floor view of downtown Seattle.
These are the steps I took:

Replaced the heavy, rectangular wood coffee table with a smaller, glass-topped round table to create a more open feel
Reduced the size and…

It’s a New Year - Designer Gets Organized!

Welcome to 2013! This Seattle interior designer had a wonderful time with family and I hope you enjoyed your holidays as well.
Last month I scheduled an installation with California Closets Seattle for my office. My creative juices expand and explode when I’m organized and I can easily get my hands on tools I need now. A recent project inspired a solution for a customized wall cubby system. I knew this was just what I…

Beautiful Holiday Mantelpiece Inspirations

Last week, I promised you that I would show you some really beautiful holiday mantelpiece decorations that I’ve found around the web. Here are this Seattle interior designer’s favorites.

Glowing candles from Martha Stewart cast a shimmering glow.

What happens if you don’t have a mantelpiece? How about creating your own? Chalkboard paint on a canvas background will do the trick!

This live magnolia leaf garland is beautiful and tastefully subtle.

This beautiful beaded garland…

Showcase Your Home for the Holidays

If you’re like this Seattle interior designer, you enjoy decorating your home for the holidays. Of course you’ll have the tree, the stockings and the table settings, but what about other less obvious areas of your home that could use some holiday attention?
The first thing guests see when they visit is the entrance to your home, so dress it up! Here are a couple of fresh ideas I found around the ‘net for your…

The Economy Ignites Sales of Futons

How many sleepless nights have you spent on a futon? For many years I respected their utility but intensely disliked their appearance and the miserable mattress. Just as interior design evolves, so does the mattress industry, thank god! Futons entered the American market in the 70′s. Embraced by college students or first time apartment dwellers, a futon stretched the furnishing budget as a dual purpose sofa and bed.
No surprise that in our current economic…

Want a Happy Household? Get organized

I find clutter a tremendous distraction and irritant. My Seattle interior design clients are no different. Our busy families and households function more effectively and everyone is happier when ‘everything has a place’. A store I frequently recommend and that I frequent myself is Storables. Dodd Fischer (Founder/Owner) became interested in the Housewares/Lifestyle Store concept over 25 years ago. He was drawn to contemporary Italian design and the developing business of ready-to-assemble furniture. Plastic storage…
